INSTITUTE FORMS COLLABORATION WITH PREMIER RESEARCH JOURNAL
MEDIA ADVISORY: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Adoption Quarterly Names Senior Fellow Ryan as Editor, Pertman as Associate Editor
NEW YORK, March 12, 2007 – The Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute is delighted to announce that Dr. Scott Ryan, one of our Senior Research Fellows and Associate Dean at Florida State University’s College of Social Work, has been named the Editor of Adoption Quarterly – which is the premier academic, research journal in the field of adoption. We are also proud to announce that our Executive Director, Adam Pertman, has been named to the newly created post of Associate Editor of AQ.
The appointments come as the Adoption Institute and AQ (through its publisher, Haworth Press) begin a collaboration aimed at broadening their reach and enhancing their work. For instance, the Adoption Institute will feature AQ on its website and in its newsletters, thereby expanding the Institute’s ability to fulfill its mission of bringing research-based knowledge to policy-makers and professionals in order to improve the lives of everyone touched by adoption – especially children – through better-informed laws, policies and practices.
“The Adoption Institute’s record of high-caliber work, proven ability to communicate its message, and demonstrable impact on people’s lives are the major reasons that AQ is entering this collaboration,” said Ryan. “Given the journal’s own reputation for excellence, this is a great match – and one that I think is very exciting for the field.”
“Being associated with such an esteemed, peer-reviewed publication is both an honor and an extraordinary opportunity,” added Pertman. “I’m confident that it will further elevate our own work and, hopefully, will result in more people learning about AQ’s important contributions.”
Other Institute-affiliated researchers and professionals who are working with AQ include our Research and Project Director, Dr. David Brodzinsky, and our Policy and Research Director, Dr. Jeanne Howard, both as members of the journal’s Editorial Board; Senior Fellow Madelyn Freundlich, J.D., of Excal Consulting Partners as Legal Editor; Senior Fellow Dr. Victor Groza of Case-Western Reserve University as Book/Media Editor; and several additional Senior Fellows – Dr. Richard Barth of the University of Maryland, Dr. Harold Grotevant of the University of Minnesota, Dr. Dana Johnson of the University of Minnesota, and Dr. Ruth McRoy of the University of Texas – also as members of the Editorial Board.
The Adoption Institute is the pre-eminent research, policy and education organization in its field.
