Education: Educating Adoption Professionals & Families
Putting Research into Action: Educating Adoption Professionals and Families
The Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute - already a nationally recognized leader in research and policy development - is extending its efforts to implement systemic change through the training of adoption professionals with the aim of educating adoptive parents about the issues they - and their children - may face. The Institute is well known for its research on critical issues in adoption and foster care, and for its high-quality and high-impact initiatives to inform the public and professionals; promote ethical practices; and support legal, policy and practice reforms. Now we have developed research-based training materials to improve the preparation of adoptive parents, with the goal of helping families succeed.

About the Training Programs
Training is provided in a variety of formats, times and locations designed to meet the needs of working mental health, human service, medical and other adoption professionals and educators, as well as pre and post adoptive parents while meeting continuing education needs and/or pre-adoptive training needs. Our training materials are developed with our Mission in mind: 1) to inform public opinion; 2) promote ethical practices and legal reform; and 3) translate policy into action. The goal of our training is to put research into action.
Not all training is for the purpose of formalized education. Some training is designed simply to inform participants about emerging issues in adoption by giving them an opportunity to interact with researchers, ask questions and receive supplemental information. In addition, customized onsite or online training programs can be designed to meet the unique needs of individual organizations and agencies. Contact the Adoption Institute or email Training@adoptioninsitute.org to discuss customizing a training program for your organization or agency.

Benefit of Live Webinars
- Webinars are Convenient. We bring the experts to you, directly to your home or office computer. Offered at a variety of times, you can join adoption professionals across the country no matter your timezone in a workshop presented by our research experts. All you need is a computer, high speed Internet access and a phone (to dial in questions or you can email questions).
- Webinars are Budget Friendly. Webinars are affordably priced and allow you direct access to the best researchers in the nation, reducing your travel time, expenses and hotel costs.
- Webinars are Easy to Use. No need to download special software or get special training. Simply click on the link that will be provided to you after you register and you will be taken directly to the webinar site. Log in and you're there!
- Webinars are Interactive. You will see the presentation and the presenter on your computer. You can email or phone in your questions, hear your answers and hear or see questions asked by other participants.
- Webinars are Reviewable. You will have long term access to a recorded version of the training, organized into usefully labeled sections, allowing you to repeat the complete presentation or just parts you want to reinforce.
Self-Guided Web Briefings
A Web Briefing is a recorded version of the live webinar presentation. Web briefings bring the same information to you as a live webinar but in a self-guided, powerpoint driven and video replay that has been edited and designed for individuals to use whenever it is convenient for them. Participants can start, pause and return to a web briefing at their own convenience. By completing the pre-test and post tests, individuals can still earn continuing education credits.
Train the Trainer workshops - Learn, Return, Train
We understand that quite often there are insufficient financial and staff resources for agencies and organizations to develop, implement and provide the training their employees need. We have designed Train the Trainer modules that allow you to learn, return and train your own employees. Materials are provided in a way that allow participants to incorporate the training into their own training materials as they see fit.
Supplemental guides
Many organizations have training modules that they currently use or are mandated to use. We provide supplemental guides for you to review and fit into your own training curriculum - fill in the missing pieces and bring training up to date and current.
Onsite Customizable Training
For larger organizations and agencies or at pre-conference workshops, the Adoption Institute is able to provide customized onsite training. We customize the training to suit your needs- whether you wish to focus on training adoptive parents or as part of your pre-adoptive training curriculum or whether you want to train your own agency's or organization's employees so they may in turn incorporate the material into their training or support groups. Onsite training can be a more cost-effective way of training larger groups, allowing the presenter to be completely interactive with the participants in person.
