Audience: Psychologists, counselors, social workers, marriage and family therapists, adoption placement agencies, caseworkers and other mental health professionals and human service professionals that recruit and train pre-adoptive and post-adoptive parents.
Description: This Web Briefing describes current changes and issues in transracial adoption and adjustment outcomes for these children; biological factors and environments associated with the adjustment of transracial adoptions; and family lifecycle issues.
Learning Objectives:
  • Participants will be able to describe the changes in adoption practices over the past four decades and how these changes create new needs for clinical help
  • Participants will be able to identify three different regulatory sources governing transracial placements and the impact on parents of the conflicting policies among them
  • Participants will be able to summarize at least two outcome studies regarding transracial adoption
  • Participants will be able to state at least four key practice principles in transracial adoption
