The Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute conducts research,
provides education programs and shapes policies to tangibly
improve the lives of everyone touched by adoption, especially
children. A study commissioned by Spence-Chapin Services to
Families and Children in 1994 found the adoption field needed
an independent, research-based voice to work for better, more
ethical practices, policies and laws; the Adoption Institute was
created in August 1996 to meet that need. Evan B. Donaldson served on the Spence-Chapin Board of
Directors from 1977 until her death in 1994, including the last
nine years as president. Mrs. Donaldson, an adoptive mother
herself, was a devoted advocate for children in need of permanent,
loving homes. By naming the Adoption Institute for its
beloved leader and volunteer, Spence-Chapin paid tribute to her
enduring spirit. Matt Donaldson, son of Evan B. and William Donaldson, is an
avid outdoorsman. For six years he worked for Trek America
guiding travelers throughout the United States, Canada, and
Alaska. Now employed by Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance
Company in New York City, Matt continues to find time to be
physically active and is currently training for his next challenge:
the Iron Man Triathlon. He honors his mother, and her passion,
by using this opportunity to help the Adoption Institute achieve
its mission. |
