ADOPTION INSTITUTE TO RECEIVE `ANGEL IN ADOPTION’ AWARD

NEW YORK, August 10, 2004 – The Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute is proud to announce that Senator Hillary Clinton has nominated the Institute for a 2004 congressional “Angel in Adoption” award for what she described as “this wonderful, highly effective organization’s unique role in improving the lives of the millions of Americans affected by adoption.”

The Adoption Institute will receive its award, along with other recipients, at the annual Angels in Adoption dinner on Thursday, September 23, in Washington, D.C. The national event is sponsored by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI), in partnership with the United States Congress, in recognition of the “unsung heroes” making differences in the lives of children through adoption.

“We are honored by this recognition, and view it as an incentive to work even harder on behalf of everyone touched by adoption,” said Adam Pertman, executive director of the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute. Sandra Kresch, president of the Institute’s board of directors, added: “We are especially grateful because the nomination came from Senator Clinton, who has been a champion of children and families throughout her life.”

The New York-based Institute is a national policy, research and education nonprofit that works for better adoption-related laws, policies and practices. Its diverse projects includes ones to educate teachers and journalists, improve intercountry and domestic practices, and help children who are in foster care or who have been abandoned. Because it is independent of any interest group, the Institute has long been a source of accurate, nonpartisan information for journalists, researchers and policymakers.

Pertman, a past recipient of an Angel in Adoption Award, is a Pulitzer Prize nominee for his writing about adoption and is the author of the groundbreaking book “Adoption Nation: How the Adoption Revolution is Transforming America.” For more information, or to arrange an interview, please contact Pertman (apertman@adoptioninstitute.org or 617-332-8944) or Policy Director Hollee McGinnis (hmcginnis@adoptioninstitute.org or 212-925-4089).
