FACULTY MEMBER BACKGROUND

James L. Gritter

A certified social worker and member of the American Adoption Congress, Jim Gritter has worked with adoption issues for over twenty years and is currently a Child Welfare Supervisor for Catholic Human Services in Michigan. As an experienced expert in the field, Mr. Gritter has hosted and presented at numerous conferences, as well as making television appearances on various broadcasts such as 20/20, CBS Nightwatch, and the Home Show. He has also contributed to video productions concerning adoption, and written manuals, articles, and other material on the subject. He is currently working on Thinking About Open Adoption and A Day by Day Book for Open Adoption Birthparents, and is looking forward to the publication of his latest work, Lifegivers: Framing the Birthparent Experience in Open Adoption, which will be released in the Fall of 1999. In 1997 Mr. Gritter was honored with the Baran and Pannor Award for Outstanding Contributions in Open Adoption, in acknowledgment of his extensive work and dedication in support of this area of adoption practice.
