Dr. Joyce Maguire Pavao
Dr. Pavao, EdD, L.C.S.W., L.M.F.T., is the founder and director of The Center For Family Connections, The Adoption Resource Center in Massachusetts, and the Pre/post Adoption Consulting Team. She is a Clinical Member and Approved Supervisor of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and is a clinical member of the American Orthopsychiatric Association. She is also a member and past Regional Director of the American Adoption Congress, and a former board member of both the Council for Equal Rights in Adoption and the Open Door Society of Massachusetts. She is on the Practice and Ethics Board of the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute, on the Policy and Education Board of Adoptive Families of America, and on the board of Adoptive Families Together, among others. She has done extensive training nationally and internationally, has consulted to various child welfare and adoption agencies, and has worked closely with individuals and families with adoption, foster care, guardianship, and kinship family issues. Her constant chant is that adoption be about Finding Families for Children, not about Finding Children for Families, and although she is a family therapist with empathy for all parties, she keeps her focus clearly on the best interest of the child. Dr. Pavao is a published writer of training materials and a contributor to larger volumes.
