Adoption Scholars' Travel Grant

To encourage the exchange of information between adoption researchers, adoption practitioners, and other members of the adoption community the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute will fund scholars new to the field of adoption research to present at national adoption conferences.

Travel Grant

The Adoption Institute will reimburse up to $800.00 of travel related expenses to selected scholars whose research is accepted for presentation at the following 2000 national adoption conferences.* (For information about submitting proposals to the individual conferences go to the
conference deadlines page.)

American Adoption Congress
April 13-16, 2000, Nashville, TN

North American Council on Adoptable Children
July 27-July 30, 2000, Baltimore, MD

Child Welfare League of America National Adoption Conference
December 2000, Tentatively scheduled for Northern California


Application Process

Submit a completed
application form and a copy of the letter of acceptance from the individual conference to the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute. The applications will be reviewed by a subcommittee of the Institute's Practice and Research Advisory Committee. The application deadline is February 1, 2000 for conferences held in the first half of the year (March-July) and June 1, 2000 for conferences held between August and February.

Eligibility

To be eligible to receive the grant you must be:
1) a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) in a degree granting program at an accredited institution in the U.S. or abroad; or,
2) have received your Ph.D. within the past calendar year from an accredited institution in the U.S. or abroad. The research must address the criteria outlined on the grant application.
3) have received your M.S.W. within the past calendar year from an accredited institution in the U.S. or abroad. The research must address the criteria outlined on the grant application.


Grant Recipients

The Institute will notify you within 30 days of receiving your application that you have been approved for travel reimbursement. Upon returning from the conference, submit original receipts for travel related expenses to the Institute and you will be reimbursed within 3-4 weeks.


Recipient Responsibilities

By accepting the grant, we ask that you agree to the following terms:
1) Provide the Institute with a copy of your Ph.D. dissertation or Master's Thesis to become part of our Research Collection which is accessible to other scholars.
2) Permit the Institute to audio record the presentation for archival purposes.
3) Acknowledge both verbally and in written materials the role of the travel grant in supporting your presentation.
