Adoption Research Bibliography & Abstracts Database: 1986 - 2000

The Adoption Institute compiled this comprehensive searchable database of abstracts of qualitative and quantitative adoption research conducted and/or published from 1986 through 1997. The abstracts in this database were published as An Annotated Guide to Adoption Research: 1986 - 1997 through the Child Welfare League of America press, however it is no longer available in print. The database has been updated with articles published through 2000. You may view the database by conducting a word search or category search.

Bibliographies

A Readers' Guide to Adoption-Related Literature is a current guide to adoption literature.

The National Resource Center for Family Centered Practice Bibliography Index contains 75 topical bibliographies.

A bibliography of selected law review articles related to the Indian Child Welfare Act has been compiled by the Indian Child Welfare Law Center.

A number of bibliographies on topics such as disruption and transracial adoption are available at AdoptINFO along with other research based information on adoption.

Databases of Interest to Adoption Researchers, Policy Makers,and Professionals

Statisical tables produced by the National Center for Health Statistics include data on the number of live births,fertility rates, and life expectancy.

Nearly 9 million citations are searchable through the National Library of Medicine's MEDLINE database.

The Educational Research Information Clearinghouse offers a searchable database of research papers and monographs.

The National Center on Fathers and Familieshas identified nearly 6,000 relevant article, studies, and reports and made them searchable by subject area.

More than 500 indicators of state social policies and family well-being are tracked in Assessing the New Federalism, a state-by-state database developed by the Urban Institute in collaboration with Child Trends.

The National Longitudinal Surveys of Labor Market Experiences Annotated Bibliography provides access to a wealth of research on topics such as family background, education, employment histories, and economic well being of subjects from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth.

The National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information offers a document database of more than 22,000 records on child abuse and neglect and child welfare issues.

The Global ChildNet Bibliographical Database offers an international collection of bibliographical citations.

The National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information provides links to major drug and alcohol / health related databases

Sources for Adoption and Foster Care Statistics

The Alaska Bureau of Vital Statistics contains data from 1995.

The state of Arizona reports data from the Foster Care Review Board Annual Report.

Statistical data on the number of adoptions in the state of California are provided by the state's information services.

The number of public agency adoptions finalized from 1976 through 1996 in Illinois

Travel Grant for Adoption Scholars

The Adoption Institute previously provided scholars new to the field of adoption research grants to present at national adoption conferences in order to encourage the exchange of information between adoption researchers, adoption practitioners, and other members of the adoption community.
