Press Release

NEW YORK, Sept. 17, 2007 – The Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute is proud to announce that Dr. Devon Brooks of the University of Southern California, a highly accomplished scholar in the fields of adoption and foster care, is joining our Senior Research Fellows Program.

Dr. Brooks, an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at USC, has focused much of his work on identifying risk and protective factors related to child and family adjustment and well-being. He is a sought-after speaker and expert who has been involved in several long-term and large-scale adoption studies, and has published numerous articles, book chapters, and reports on adoption-related issues.

“I think it’s fair to say that Devon’s work is some of the most important and insightful in the field today,” said Adam Pertman, the Adoption Institute’s Executive Director. “He has earned his place among our Senior Research Fellows, and we’re very lucky to have him.”

The other Senior Fellows – all among the most prominent and esteemed researchers, lecturers, trainers and writers in the field today – are: Dr. Richard Barth of the University of Maryland; Dr. Harold Grotevant of the University of Minnesota, Dr. Victor Groza of Case-Western University; Madelyn Freundlich, LLD, a policy researcher/consultant; Dr. Dana Johnson of the International Adoption Clinic at the University of Minnesota; Dr. Ruth McRoy of the University of Texas; Dr. Ellen Pinderhughes of Tufts University; and Dr. Scott Ryan of Florida State University.

The Institute created its Senior Fellows Program in an effort to enhance the quality and impact of our work – and to improve adoption generally. The Fellows enhance and expand the Institute’s initiatives by contributing their knowledge and expertise, providing substantive content from their research and experience, helping to shape and vet our products so they achieve the highest possible standards and impact, and assisting in focusing our work on the vitally important issues that affect tens of millions of children and families in our country every day.

The Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute is the pre-eminent research, policy and education organization in its field. Its mission is to provide leadership that improves adoption laws, policies and practices – through sound research, education and advocacy – in order to better the lives of everyone touched by adoption.
